Inspired by Operation Smile
So, I watched the infomercial/PSA one day I couldn't sleep. I had donated before but this time it became very relevant how with $240 we could make a difference in a child's life and that of their family!
I'm not a mother yet but I couldn't imagine having my child deal with cleft palate and not be able to afford the surgery. Not only that, but even if they could to put the trust in this medical team to put my young child in their arms and hope for success and safety.
I recently had gum surgery on a couple of teeth, and it is painful and not fun. I've had a series of dental procedures over the years, and I can say it's physically and emotionally tolling. I can see the worry in my parents' eyes everytime I go through it, and I'm an adult. I can't imagine how the parents of these children deal with it, and how the children heal from it! It's an impressive feat!
And the medical teams that volunteer their time to help these families are a beautiful inspiration.
So I often hear from women complaints about their physical appearance, or this or that, yet we have a lot more right with us than wrong, so let's start appreciating our bodies and health. Of course you can work on maintaining yourself fit and healthy, physically, emotionally and mentally. But also, let's gain some perspective. It's not about guilt but doing something. Many of us think about it and feel bad about things that go on in the world, yet we don't do anything about it. We have the right intentions yet we don't have the time or can't figure out how. So motivate yourself today to improve at least your own life by being kind to yourself, today.
And, if you can afford it, please donate any amount to this fundraiser. To donate, here's the link: http://support.operationsmile.org/site/TR?pg=fund&fr_id=1030&pxfid=14310
I heard just this weekend, you tell us to smile but we are gonna get wrinkled! And I thought, I bet those parents wish that were their only worry!
And, if anything, I hope this inspired you to be kinder to yourself, smile more, gain some perspective (even if momentarily), and also promote yourself to do something if you've been touched by a cause, or if you've been thinking of doing something for a while, take a baby step today!
You can also start your own fundraiser, just go to the operationsmile.org site :)
